Frequently Asked Questions

Many believe that a therapist is someone who listens and is similar to a good friend. While a therapist should be a good listener and someone who is easy to talk to (like a good friend), a good therapist does much more:

They listen, offer an unbiased perspective, and have the expertise and knowledge to help you achieve breakthroughs in your life. You are seeking therapy to make changes and that doesn’t happen with someone merely listening. At New Leaf Counseling, we offer breakthrough therapy. You can expect deep compassion, understanding, and support AND when you are ready we will move at your pace to help you get the RESULTS you want. We know change is possible, we have witnessed it with countless clients.

Therapy can help you in many ways, such as:

  • Managing and reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns.
  • Improving relationships and communication skills.
  • Developing healthier coping mechanisms for stress and difficult emotions.
  • Increasing self-awareness and understanding.
  • Processing past traumas and experiences.
  • Setting and achieving personal goals.
  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Somatic therapy
  • Solution Focused therapy
  • Psychodynamic therapy
  • Couples therapy
  • Family therapy
  • And more…

The first session is typically an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know each other. You’ll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your goals, and any relevant background information. Your therapist will also explain their approach and answer any questions you have.

The length of therapy varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people benefit from short-term therapy (a few weeks or months), while others may require longer-term treatment.

If you are struggling with emotional difficulties, relationship problems, or life challenges that are impacting your daily life or overall well-being, therapy may be helpful. You feel unable to make changes to your life even though you have made efforts. Some common signs that you might benefit from therapy include feeling overwhelmed, emotional burnout or numbness, heightened irritability, persistent sadness or anxiety, difficulty sleeping or concentrating, withdrawing from social activities, or experiencing significant changes in appetite or energy levels.

Finding the right therapist is essential for a successful therapeutic experience. We offer a free consultation with a therapist so you can get a feel to see if this is the right fit. This is a unique opportunity so you are not wasting your time or money.

Consider factors such as their specialization, therapeutic approach, personality, and whether you feel comfortable and understood by them. You can also seek recommendations from trusted friends, family, or healthcare providers.

Absolutely! We have therapists who offer online and Telehealth therapy exclusively. Additionally, every therapist who sees clients in person also offers online therapy. This is completely up to you!

Our cancellation policy is 48 hours to avoid being charged for the full session fee. This allows us to schedule another client at that time. We also offer a remote or phone session if you are unable to come to the office for any reason. The exception to the cancellation policy is for emergencies.

While we are not paneled with insurance, we do accept HSA, and FSA, and can give you statements to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. We are also partnered with Mentaya who will submit claims on your behalf under your out-of-network benefit and charge just a 5% fee for the claim.

Reach out to us! We are happy to check your benefits, or you can check them on our Mentaya benefits checker directly on our website!
